Now what?

I've finished piecing the NY beauty blocks and have decided on how I plan to lay them out. I just laid the blocks out randomly for this photo and haven't committed to actual block placement, but I know I want the final shape of the quilt to have the uneven edges. Laying the blocks out on the living room rug probably wasn't the best idea for taking photos but I think you can see what I'm trying to accomplish. (click on photo for a larger view)
So, my dilemma is what kind of batting should I use for a silk quilt and HOW DO I QUILT IT???
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have seen a lot of interesting quilting done on New York Beauty blocks. You might try going to Webshots and search "new york beauty quilt" and see if you get any ideas there.

If it were mine, I would sitch in the ditch around the curves and points and then do some cool from the center of the curve to the ray points (to emphasize the sunburst effect) and tight background filler behind the points. A shiny rayon thread like Superior Rainbows or Highlights would look nice on silk. Just one person's opinion!

It's looking wonderful and I like Vicki's suggestion for quilting. I think for the batting it's what you feel comfortable working with - a friend used 100% organic cotton with her silk quilt.

STUNNING!

I hope everyone takes the time to open up the larger image! How many hours do you think you have in this project?

Your quilt is beautiful! My only attempt at working with silk was a disaster, so I am in awe of your work!

It's wonderful! Some day I'll make a NY Beauty. I'd say use cotton batting. As for pattern maybe Vicki's right although I don't usually like stitch in the ditch. Watch out for Rainbows though. I've had a horrible experience with it raveling out of the stitching when I used it. Never again.

Nothing like someone commenting on your blog for the first time and giving you lots of opinions, is there? :)
